Refer a Friend: How Our 3rd Coast Salon Loyalty Program Works

The short version: Almost every new client at 3rd Coast Salon comes from a referral. We don't run heavy paid ads. Our growth depends on existing clients telling friends, family, and coworkers about their stylist. To say thank you, we run a referral program that rewards both the existing client and the friend they send our way.

If you've ever asked a friend whose hair always looks good where they go, you already understand how a salon like ours grows. Referrals built 3rd Coast Salon from the moment we opened our doors in River North. They still drive most of our new bookings.

This piece explains how our referral program works, why we lean on referrals instead of running aggressive paid ads, and what the rewards look like for both sides.

Why we grow through referrals, not ads

We're a boutique suite in River North. Our calendar fills 3 to 6 weeks out for our most-requested stylists. If we put heavy ad spend behind every empty slot, we'd be promising results to people who don't yet know whether our stylist roster matches their hair. That's not how trust works in the salon business.

A referral skips that problem. When a friend sees your color turn out the way you wanted, or a coworker compliments your cut, that's evidence we can't manufacture in an ad. The friend already knows what to expect when they walk in.

"The clients you've sent us are our favorite kind of first-time appointment. You've already told them what we're good at and what we're not. We just have to keep the promise you made."

How the referral program works

The mechanics are simple.

You refer a friend. Send them our online booking link, give them our phone number, or just tell them which stylist to ask for. They book and complete their first appointment.

We track the referral. At the new client's first appointment, we ask who sent them. That answer gets noted in their file and tied back to your account.

Both of you get a reward. The new client gets a thank-you applied to their first or second visit. You get a credit applied to your next visit. The credit shows up at checkout. You don't need to ask for it.

There's no card to carry, no app to download, and no code to remember. The system runs through our booking software and our front desk.

What kinds of referrals count?

Any new client who books a full service with us counts. That includes color appointments, cut appointments, extension consultations, smoothing services, and styling. The new client has to be brand new to us. Existing clients booking a different service don't count as a referral.

There's no cap on how many friends you can refer. If you've sent us five clients this year, we owe you five credits. They stack on your account, and you can use them across different visits.

What if I don't know what to tell my friend?

Most clients tell their friend the same kind of thing they'd tell anyone they trust:

"My stylist's name is Kevin. Ask for him for color."

"Go to Phillip if you want a cut that holds up between appointments."

"They're in River North, three blocks from the Chicago Riverwalk, and they actually listen during the consultation."

That kind of specific recommendation lands better than a generic "go to this salon." If your friend asks for a name to request, the answer makes the booking easier on both sides.

What this is NOT

This isn't a pyramid scheme or a multi-level rewards stack. You don't earn anything off your friend's friends' appointments. The reward is a one-time credit tied to the first appointment of the person you sent.

It's also not a discount code that anyone can find on a coupon site. Referrals are tracked at the front desk by name. The friend has to mention you when they book or at check-in.

And it's not a substitute for tipping your stylist. Credits apply to the service portion of your bill. Tips are separate. Your stylist still depends on tips on the actual service.

How clients usually share us

The most common ways referrals come in:

Word of mouth at work. Someone in the office compliments your color, and you tell them where you go. River North runs heavy on coworker referrals because so many of our clients work nearby in the West Loop or the Loop itself.

Texting our online booking link. One tap on your phone, sent to a friend. Booking link: https://online.rosysalonsoftware.com/onlineBooking?id=39138.

Instagram tags. If we post your color on the salon Instagram, you can tag a friend or share the post to your story. Several of our newest clients found us that way.

In-person introductions. Bring a friend with you to your appointment if you're consulting on a major change. We've had plenty of clients pick up their first booking after watching a friend's appointment from the waiting area.

How to redeem your credit

You don't have to do anything to redeem. At your next visit, the credit will appear on your bill. If you'd like to confirm a credit is on file, ask at the front desk before your appointment starts. We can look it up in seconds.

Credits don't expire. They sit on your account until you use them. If you want to stack two credits on a single visit, that works too.

Frequently asked questions

How does my friend mention me when booking?

They can write your name in the notes when booking online, mention you when they call us, or just tell us at check-in. We'll match it to your account.

What if my friend forgets to mention me?

Call us within two weeks of their first appointment. We can credit it retroactively as long as we can confirm with the new client.

Does the referral work for any stylist?

Yes. The new client doesn't have to book with the same stylist you see. The referral counts as long as they book a service with our team.

Is there a limit on the credit value per visit?

The credit applies to the service portion of your bill. The front desk can confirm specifics at checkout.

Can I refer family members?

Yes. Friends, family, coworkers, anyone who hasn't been a client at 3rd Coast Salon before. The credit applies the same way.

Where can I find more about our services?

See our full service menu. We cover color, cuts, extensions, smoothing, conditioning, and styling.

Do referrals count if my friend only books a styling appointment?

Yes. Any full-service booking counts, including blowouts and special occasion styling.
