3rd Coast Salon is a color-focused hair salon in River North, Chicago. Every color service starts with a consultation where your colorist evaluates your hair's current condition, discusses your goals, and builds a custom formula before mixing anything. We do not use a one-size-fits-all approach. Your formula is mixed specifically for your hair.
Our color team specializes in balayage, single process color, foil highlights, color correction, and gloss treatments. Kevin, our master colorist, formulates for Chicago's specific light and climate. Gray overcast off the lake reads differently than direct sunlight, and your color should look right in both. He adjusts tone and gloss based on the season and how you spend your days.
We use professional-grade color lines and include Olaplex in all lightening services to protect hair integrity during the process. Pricing is transparent and based on the actual work your hair needs. You will know the cost before we start, not after.
Walk-ins are not available for color services. Book online or call (312) 929-2627 to schedule your consultation. We are open Tuesday through Friday 10 AM to 7 PM and Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM.

How long does a balayage appointment take?
A full balayage at 3rd Coast Salon typically takes 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending on your hair's length, thickness, and starting color. This includes the consultation, application, processing time, toner, and a blowout finish. We never rush color work.
Do I need a consultation before booking color?
Yes. Every new color client starts with a consultation. Your colorist needs to see your hair in person, understand its history, and build the right formula. This takes 15 to 20 minutes and can be done as a standalone visit or at the start of your first appointment.
How often should I touch up my hair color?
Single process root touch-ups are typically needed every 4 to 6 weeks. Balayage is lower maintenance and can go 8 to 12 weeks between appointments depending on how it was placed. Your colorist will recommend a schedule based on your specific service.
Can you fix bad hair color from another salon?
Yes. Color correction is one of our specialties. Kevin approaches corrections as phased projects, not single-visit fixes. He will give you an honest timeline and cost at the consultation. Common issues we fix include brassiness, banding, uneven lifts, and box dye layering.
