Best Hair Salon in Lakeview, Chicago
Lakeview clients drive a lot of our color experimentation work. The neighborhood sits between Diversey and Irving Park on Chicago's north side, wrapping Wrigley Field, the Belmont Theatre district, and Boystown along Halsted. People who live in those few square miles tend to be young professionals, performers, service-industry pros, and a deeply rooted LGBTQ+ community. The hair conversation up there leans different than what we hear from clients commuting in from the suburbs.
Why Lakeview residents book hair appointments at 3rd Coast Salon
Lakeview clients ask us for things other neighborhoods rarely do. Copper-to-pink melts before Pride. Mullets and shags that actually grow out clean. Money-piece framing that reads on stage lighting at Metro or Subterranean. We see more clients in their twenties and thirties who treat their hair as part of their identity rotation, not just maintenance, and we adjust our consultation accordingly. The first ten minutes of any new Lakeview booking is usually mood-board talk, not chemistry talk.
The Boystown segment of Lakeview brings us a steady flow of clients who want their cut and color to read across drag, nightlife, and day-job contexts. We have stylists who have cut for performers up and down Halsted for years. We are comfortable with bleach-and-tone work, fashion shades, and shadow roots that grow out without a hard line at week six. We also do the opposite. A Wrigleyville bartender who wants their natural color back after years of bleach gets the same room as the client coming in for fashion violet.
Lakeview's pace also matters. Cubs home stands, theater previews on Belmont, and summer weekends along the lakefront mean our Lakeview clients book in tight windows, often Tuesday or Saturday morning before a show or a game. Our Tue to Fri 10am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm schedule fits that rhythm. We respect that you have somewhere to be after, and we don't run over.
Our full-service approach for Lakeview clients
We treat color, cut, and finish as one conversation. If you walk in for highlights but your shape is two months past due, Kevin or Phillip will tell you which order makes more sense. Bleach-and-tone work always gets paired with Olaplex in the bowl. Cuts get a real wet-and-dry check, not just a quick brush-through. Styling at the end uses Unite 7Second and Liquid Volume because our clients leave and go straight to dinner, drinks, or the train.
For Lakeview clients specifically, we keep our toner shelf well-stocked with cooler ash, true violet, and warm copper bases. We can swing fashion shades without restarting from scratch the next visit, which protects your hair over a year of changes.
Stylist spotlight: Kevin
Kevin anchors our color chair. If you are asking for a bigger swing, a lived-in copper, a soft melt into pink at the ends, or a clean grow-out from a previous bright, that consultation goes to Kevin. He plans color in stages. He will tell you what is possible in one visit and what needs two. Lakeview clients respond to that because most of them have lived through a one-and-done bleach session somewhere else and want a stylist who slows down.
When Kevin works a Lakeview color appointment, he writes a maintenance plan at the end. Most fashion shades need a refresh every four to six weeks. Lived-in balayage stretches eight to twelve. He puts it on paper.
Getting to 3rd Coast Salon from Lakeview
The Red Line is the fastest way in. Board at Belmont, Addison, or Sheridan, ride south, and step off at Chicago Avenue. From the Chicago Avenue stop, walk east on Chicago, then south on State, then east on Erie. We are at 223 W Erie, Suite 1E. The whole trip averages around twenty minutes from Belmont, twenty-five from Addison.
If you are driving from north Lakeview, take Lake Shore Drive south to Ohio Street and cut west. Erie is one block north of Ohio. There is metered street parking on Erie and Huron, and several paid garages within two blocks of the salon. Allow twenty to thirty minutes off-peak from the Wrigleyville area, longer on Cubs game days.
What this is NOT
This is not a chain salon and we do not run a walk-in policy. If you need a $20 trim before work tomorrow, we are not the right fit. Our chairs are booked through our online booking, and color appointments need a brief consultation note in advance if you are coming off prior bleach or box dye. We also do not do extreme one-day color jumps like a virgin level 4 to a platinum white in a single sitting. We will plan that out across two or three visits.
